第55回 ハインリヒ・シュッツの音楽

Salicus Kammerchorは第5回定期演奏会で、「J. S. バッハのモテット全曲演奏シリーズ」を終えました。次なるシリーズとして私達が取り上げるのは、バッハ以前のドイツにおいて最大の音楽家とみなされているハインリヒ・シュッツです。バッハに比べるとまだまだ演奏機会の少ないシュッツですが、この4回の演奏会シリーズを通してその魅力を皆様と味わい尽くしたいと考えています。
シュッツはバッハが生まれるちょうど100年前、1585年にテューリンゲンの小さな村で生まれました。ヘッセン＝カッセル方伯モーリツにみそめられ、音楽家としての人生を歩み始めたシュッツは彼の後押しでヴェネツィアに留学し、ジョヴァンニ・ガブリエーリのもとで学びます。シリーズ第1回「巨匠たちの系譜」では主にこのジョヴァンニ・ガブリエーリを中継地点として、シュッツへといたるキリスト教声楽の変遷を追っていきます。
1614年からシュッツはドレスデンのザクセン選帝侯ヨハン・ゲオルグ1世のもとで活動しますが、ほどなくしてドイツの人口を半分以下にしたという三十年戦争が始まってしまいます。この戦争はシュッツの創作にも暗い影を落としますが、彼はその最中、再びヴェネツィアを訪れてクラウディオ・モンテヴェルディのもとで学んでいます。シリーズ第2回「二人の天才〜モンテヴェルディ→シュッツ〜」ではこのモンテヴェルディからの影響にスポットをあてたプログラムを予定しています。
三十年戦争はシュッツの33歳から63歳というまさに働き盛りの時期と重なっているのですが、この間にシュッツは身内を次々に亡くします。特に1622年からの17年間では信じがたいことに16人もの親族を失っているのです。シリーズ第3回「シュッツよ、君の名が 死者を死から解き放つ」はコラール “In allen meinen Taten”の作者としても有名な詩人パウル・フレミングがシュッツを評して言った言葉です。87歳という長寿を全うし、それだけに多くの死を見届けてきたシュッツが、生涯を通じてどう死と向き合ってきたかはその音楽に現れています。シリーズ第3回では彼が葬儀や追悼式のために作曲した音楽をとりあげます。
晩年のシュッツはそれまでの人生の総決算を行うように、自分の作品の改定や完成、出版を行いました。同時に最後まで新たな作品の創作も行い、最晩年にあって彼は「イエス・キリスト降誕物語SWV435」、「マタイ受難曲SWV479」、「ルカ受難曲SWV490」、「ヨハネ受難曲SWV481」等大作を次々に生み出します。シリーズ最終回「白鳥の歌」では、シュッツが人生の最後に残した11の作品SWV482-492をとりあげます。シリーズ第3回まではシュッツへといたるキリスト教声楽の歴史を追う形でプログラムを組みますが、最終回はこの「白鳥の歌」全曲のみのプログラムとなる予定です。
4回のシリーズを通して彼の人生と、彼に至る音楽の流れを体験し、彼が描いていた音楽の世界に肉薄することができればと考えています。どうぞお楽しみください。
